Why so many Popup Ads

I've been prompted to write a thread as I have not posted in a while but find most of the web page covered in popup ads.

Agreed. Ads persist even though I pay a subscription. Have written to Lou about it 😀

I also often see pages covered in multiple copies of ads. I just answered a question on one of the forums and the reply-box for my answer contained three copies of the same ad. I use Safari on a Mac and iPad, don't know whether that makes things worse?
